Citizens Police academy

Mission Statement

The Academy is an eleven week program designed to give citizens an overview of our department’s structure, services and personnel.  The curriculum will be similar to the traditional police academy. The weekly sessions are not designed to make participants police officers, but rather to assist them in understanding the “How and Why” of the officers and the agencies.  The thirty-three hour raining program consists of classroom time and “hands on” instruction.  Topics covered include the officer selection and training process, the roles and responsibilities of the uniformed officer, use of firearms and deadly force options, investigations and evidence processing, communications, specialized units, community involvement, “ride-a-longs”, and much more.

Citizens Police Academy

Goals

The goal of the Citizens Police Academy is to educate and inform the citizens of Mundy Township, to provide a forum for police-community interaction, and to foster a partnership through greater understanding.  The end result is to work together to solve problems and create a safer community for all.

The Citizens' Police Academy is an eleven week course with one, three hour, class being held each week. Each class topic will provide an overview of virtually every aspect of the work performed by police officers and civilian employees.

  • Traffic Stops
  • Police Communications
  • Criminal Investigation
  • Computer Crimes
  • Drug Interdiction
  • Domestic Violence
  • Fire Safety and Prevention
  • Firearms Training and Safety
  • Ride-Alongs
  • and Much More!

The course will be taught at the Mundy Township Police Department. Several classes will require field locations. Instructors of the course will be much the same as those that may instruct an academy of recruit officers.

Class Schedule

The 9th Citizens' Police Academy has been completed with the graduation event taking place on Tuesday June 12, 2012 at the Redwood Lodge.  The class began in April with seven (7) students.  All seven completed the course and participated in the graduation.

The Department and the Mundy Volunteer Program would like to thank the Redwood Lodge and Meijer for their sponsorship of the graduation event.
