The Mundy Township Police Department provides full-time police service to the community. The Department staffing consists of the Township Marshal (Chief), three sergeants, two detectives, twelve full-time police officers, two part-time police officers, one dispatcher, one evidence technician, one transcriptionist/secretary, one part-time clerk and one part-time public service officer.
Officers are on duty 24 hours every day to respond to calls for service. The Genesee County 911 Dispatch Center receives calls and dispatches officers. To report a crime, crash or other incident needing police or other emergency assistance, call 911.
The office is open Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The phone number to contact the Department for administrative matters, records information, or to contact the detectives and officers is (810) 655-4646. A direct dial phone to the Dispatch Center is located at the entrance to the police station provides access to police service after business office hours.
The detectives follow up on investigations started by patrol officers. They also prepare cases for prosecution and handle cases as they progress through the court process. One patrol officer is assigned to the multi-jurisdictional GAIN auto theft unit.
Two officers are assigned as school resource officers. One officer is assigned to the Genesee Intermediate School District Skill Center and another is assigned to the Carmen-Ainsworth Middle School. Funding for these positions is provided by the schools.
The Department has an active volunteer program, the Mundy Volunteer Program (MVP). The unit is under the direction of the officer assigned to community policing. Part of the program is the Citizens’ Police Academy, which provides members of the community an opportunity to learn more about the police department and the other criminal justice agencies in the area. While all members of the MVP attend this training before working as a volunteer, becoming a volunteer is not a requirement to attend the Academy.
