24 Hour Police Assistance Available at
Mundy Township Police Department
The recent installation of an emergency phone at the entrance to the Mundy Township Police Department allows citizens to obtain assistance around the clock. While the Department provides 24 hour patrol coverage to the Township, it has regular office hours, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The new wall mounted phone connects directly with the County Central Dispatch. Those in need of assistance can talk with a dispatcher who can send an officer to meet the person needing assistance. The phone is the type that is often installed on college campuses.
In the past, after normal business hours, citizens coming to the station for assistance were frequently not able to contact an officer at the station. The Township Marshall, Chief Jim Petres, believes that the phone is an important service improvement for those in the community. "We often tell people who think that they are being followed to go to a public place, such as a police station to get help. It would be unfortunate for someone to follow that advice and not be able to get help."
While the phone is referred to as an "emergency phone", the use is not restricted to emergencies. Anyone stopping at the station after hours, who needs police assistance, is encouraged to use the phone to contact a dispatcher.
